I was reading the passage in Luke 2 –
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of The Lord came upon them, and the glory of The Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid.
(The upcoming part that stood out to me is, the angel knows who that baby is, he knows that Jesus left heaven to come to earth, from the angel’s perspective he knows that Jesus, who is his favorite person throughout all of eternity is coming in a stable. I bet that’s why they sang praises, they knew who it was that is coming and they know, in a much greater manner the us, who He is. Imagine your favorite person in all the world, and it’s your job to announce that person. You would be so proud, so happy to tell how great that person is.
The angel is announcing it to folks that really do not have an accurate perception of WHAT a huge blessing is coming there way. He announces Jesus and we say – Yay! Praise God! Good response but, I am completely confident it is underwhelming in comparison the gift we have received, compared to the majesty and awesomeness of Jesus. )
And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for behold,
(Imagine the enthusiasm the angel used as he explained)
I bring you good tidings of GREAT joy for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you;
he is the Messiah, the Lord.
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
After reading that this morning, I felt like standing on the street corner and shouting .. Good news! Jesus has come! He is from heaven and we don’t even really know how great He is, but He loves us so much He came for us!
Join me everyone as we live in awe of His glory!
Whew! What a way to start the morning <3
